Fort Leavenworth Bldg 61

Townsend Hall, Building 61, was originally constructed in 1891 and listed on the Fort Leavenworth National Historic Register. Townsend Hall is currently occupied by the Army/American Council on Education Registry, MWR and SVCS School Age Programs for gymnastics, dance and music studios, arts and crafts and the SKE contractor office for on-post maintenance services. The existing structure encompasses an area of 42,000 SF which is divided into three connecting annexes on one floor and basement. BDY is teamed with GPW & Associates, LLC to provide design services. Design services by BDY include interior renovation, design of a mezzanine area open to the seminar rooms on the 1st floor, a comprehensive interior design and furniture package, and historical preservation and upgrades to exterior entrances. The building will be converted to a Battle Seminar Facility for the Battle Command Training Program (BCTP). The project will provide capability to conduct strategic level war gaming, and simulations symposia, commander conferences, and to support national, joint, and Army level operational missions and war fighting requirements. The project will provide the latest technologies for supporting seminars and simulation in two back-to-back auditoriums seating up to 160 people each, battle command conference rooms, video teleconference facilities, secured and non-secure storage areas for handling classified information, work and office space for military personnel, civilians and contractors.
