	Shelter Insurance BDY was commissioned by Shelter Insurance Company to design its new Western Missouri State Office Building. The building is located in the Executive Lakes Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. This State Office Building serves as a regional claims office and includes a drive-in claims facility. The two-story building provides offices for all administrative and claims staff, that are in turn responsible for all Shelter agents in the western Missouri area. BDY worked closely with Shelter Insurance executives from its headquarters in Columbia, Missouri, as well as top managers from the Kansas City area on the programming and design of the building. BDY’s design is a contemporary mission-style, in keeping with the development and I-470 corridor guidelines. The building features the characteristic red tile roof of Longview Farms, with a combination masonry and stucco exterior. A water feature is incorporated into the site following Kansas City’s “City of Fountains” image. The interior design reflects the friendly yet conservative philosophy of Shelter Insurance in providing efficient, effective service to all its customers. The total project cost was $3.5 million.
